Hi Hunter, sorry about the delay in replying, i lost the link. I hunt a lot of rabbits here in England, and shoot many wood pigeon, theres hundreds of the things at this time of the year and they make a good meal I also hunt using ferrets to bolt rabbits to the shotguns, this is my favorite type of hunting, but all very small things compared to what you guys hunt, id love to go hunting in the states, thats real hunting! Ferretings a big style of hunting over here, well we use maybe 3 ferrets (females) and you put a locator collar around its neck, these collars can be detected down to 16 ft underground and you can pin point were the ferret is, so once its down the rabbit hole/warren you have a good idea were the bolting rabbits are going to run out of. A way i like to hunt rabbits is to locate were the ferret is and then dig down to it and you will normallly find the ferret has the rabbit held by its neck, not allowing it to move, this is when you can dig down and retrieve it, or to put 'purse netts' over the holes and bolted rabbits run into these on the way out and become trapped in the net, or sometimes if the goings tuff, you can just let the rabbits run out of the holes and shoot them with the 12g as they run, but i find this easy, and i enjoy the trapping way the best. heres some pics One of the Ferrets The hard part, digging down to a ferret that has the rabbit at a stop end. Whats going on?? The end of a good day with plenty of rabbits for the pot I have quite a few ferrets, and i breed them each year and sell the kitts on to other ferreters, or just for pets heres some that ive bred myself Born yesterday, 8 kitts to my best albino my last litter born in june, Ive kept 2 of these to use next winter they need to be old enough to take a kick from a rabbit, use them when there too young and they could get hurt and never like going up against rabbits again. Wood pigeons, one of there favorite meals I also do a lot of pigeon shooting with shotguns and air rifles around the local farms Just to keep the cost of buying ferret food down, they can sure go through some meat when theres a few of them! Hope you liked the pics Hunter

Neil.....that is so way cool. I have never seen anything like that. What does it cost to collar a ferret?......man I got a bizzillion questions...lol You say you guys on the other side of the pond do this alot? How fuggin kool {I can say fuggin here...it's my place}. I thought you guys had a hard time owning a firearm {12. ga I'm talking about}...how do you get around that? I knew the were no better air rifle shooters in the world than you English dudes.....We got a crossman an it's a killer to 50 ft....{errrr...whats that in metric....2/3 of a foot errr or was that a meter...lol forgive my metric ignorance}......What do you shoot for an air rifle?
Well thats enough questions for now...lol. I'm gonna tell a champion rabbit hunter fron Nova Scotia about this post....I'm sure he will have more questions.

Now that is friggin cool is right.... My uncle has a farm in Devon and my dad and him used to do a little hunting, I was too young...grrr. Then they had some kinda scare with the bunnies there and no-one would hunt them anymore. The last time I was over, on the train from Portsmouth to London, I was absolutely amazed at the amount of rabbits hanging out near hedgerows. Man thats cool.

To collar on of these things costs £80 so to you thats about....$147.00 But up untill about 5 years back, we never used collars or locators, we just used to put them down the rabbit holes and put nets over all most of the holes and fill some others in and wait for the action to start. you can hear the rabbits banging around underneath the ground and you get a good idea were the rabbits are going to come out from. We sometimes use running dogs like greyhounds or whippets or lurchers to pin point were the rabbits are going to come from, they have a skill to this and once the rabbit bolts, the dogs are quick to catch them. Its a fantastic sport and loads of us over here spend most of the winter ferreting as its great days hunting! Getting a 12G can be pretty hard work, the police like to run checks on you about everything you have ever done and if you have been a good little boy nd avioded getting into trouble with the law throughout your life, then they cant really turn you down and a shotgun certificate is issued, that lasts for 4 years and then you have to re apply and pay another $100 for there trouble But if you want a 12G, then this is what you have to do. And Airguns?, anyone over 17 can own an airgun that doesnt have an output of more than 12ft pounds of power, if you want to have a full powered air weapon, then its back to the police station and this time you have to apply for a section 1 firearms certificate, this is even harder than getting a shotgun certificate ~(dont ask me why, its just our stupid law) I have just a standard powered airgun that you dont need no ticket for and this kills at 50 ft and thats good enough for me! I cant belive you havent heard of using ferrets to catch rabbits?,. i know ferrets are quite common pets in some parts of the states and banned in others, but across here, we all keep these little "hunting machines" and if you have never tried this, you gotta try it someday. Ill put some more pics on shortly and let you know a bit more of what we get up to! Neil

KPR ;D Thats right KPR, The problem was mxymotosis, a terrible disease that kills just about every rabbit that catches it, it puts some people off eating them so the rabbit population just grows & grows. Theres hundreds of thousands of rabbits all over the British countryside and we still get a lot of problems with mxymotosis but you can reconise signs of the disease so only the healthy ones are taken, the sick ones get used as dog/ferret food How easy is it for you guys to get some ferrets? if you get some you gotta try it out. Ferrets hate rabbits with a passion ;D

I don' t think the snowshoe rabbits here go underground as much as yours, usually find thick brush and stuff to hold up under. Our form of foxhunt over here, put the dogs to em and they will run around in basically a big circle til shot. (most times) I work on an island and the brush there is so thick the cut trails for the rabbits in summer and place treestands, one guy stays on the ground with the dogs until everyone is in there spots and settled, then turns the dogs loose and gets into his tree. I tried just around my house here last winter to take one with my bow but was unsuccessful...seems to be lots around this year though...maybe I'll get lucky and get a shot at one this winter.
