Hey my fellow bear hunters. Still trying to figure out how this board works. We were hunting north of Sheffersville Que. It was the last day of our Caribou Bear and Small game hunt. The rest of the guys decided to go fishing. I told my guide I wanted a bear. After about 5 hrs of glassing I notice a hunter on the ridge a mile away a quick check on the radio says its Kenny and John. I hike up to the ridge and we eat and bs for awile. We are supposed to meet the canoe in an hour so we hike down to the abandoned indian camp. The canoe is not there. I says to the guys...you know there are 3 bears out there now...caus we are sitting here. Kenny can't take it... back up he goes. I tell John you know he's gonna say the bears are out there...lol. Kenny calls back 2 bears in the burn. John grabs the radio an talks with Kenny. He's not BS'n us. Kenny is about 3 miles from the bears. Dam the wind is just right. If that canoe would just show up now we could buzz up the bay to the ravine and stalk up and try and get em. Wahoo here comes the canoe, we hop in an try to explain to our guide wats going on. We get to the ravine and stalk up wile Kenny glasses the bears and directs us to them. 500 yds up and east...run jog jump duck fall down...400 yds up and west...run duck jog splash fall down...300 yds up north....this went on for an hour or so. Now the guides english improves were is your bear he says. I explain not dead yet...wow his english really improves even english cursing....too far we go back. No fuggin way me an John says. Kenny calls 500 yds up an north you should see him after the next knoll he's gonna get up that ridge an we are gonna loose him.....run duck jog splash fall . we break out of the timber...there he is 300 yds I stalk out of the timber another 20 yds. nuts there he is across a deep gully man this is a long shot for me an my old 300 savage. I can't catch my breath...my heart is pounding in my ears can't keep the cross hairs on the bear who is starting to get suspicious. I think this is no time to wound a bear...aim on his neck I'll ether knock him down or miss clean. Center neck still can't hold still heart pounding center neck squeeze bamn he crumples...I crumple...Is this a dream...John assures me it is not...my first bear. As we stand over him the pontoon plane flies over head rocking his wings and we hear help approching by canoe. It's over 2 miles back to the canoes so we have to skin and quarter him and pack him out. The guide estimated him in the 500 lb range. We put his hide on a sheet of plywood and his nose and tail hung off. My shot went right in his ear hole recking the skull. The guide rough scored the skinned head at 20. I cut out the canine teeth and gave one each to Kenny and John as a thanks for the help. We had a great hunting trip 12 men brought back 24 caribou and 2 bears. Stop in my hunting site for more pictures.
