We have a special three day Doe only season for Jr. {16 and under} and Sr. {65 and over} My boys did well. The weather was great...the leaves in full fall colors...the Deer just uncooperative enough to make for a fun hunt. The forest floor wet from the night before rain...just right for a spot and stalk hunt. We headed out to my bou huntin buds farm. We worked our way into the hardwood forest behind the corn. We set Dad up in a good spot an me an Jr. headed out for my sons last Junior hunt. I let him take the lead and in twenty minutes he spotted three does {took me a minute to see em} 300 yards out in a blow down. With minimal coaching from me we closed the gap to 100 yards. I held back as he crept in 20 yards closer. He picked out the biggest doe and put one .300 Savage round through both lungs and the liver. The other two does took off and ran a big loop right past Dad. One stopped 125 yards from Dad and he put one .270 short mag round through her heart. Jr. field dressed both deer while I carried the guns n gear out to the truck...on my way back to my boys....one of those father things hit me Hard. The state says my Son is no longer a Junior Hunter....and after watching him spot, stalk, and take....I know he's ready. I puff with pride like a ol' Tom Turkey...knowing he's ready...but feel like my guts was ripped outta my azzwhole...knowin he don't need me no more.

Today was the first day of rifle season for white tail here in Pennsyltuky...and man did it rain. When it wasn't raining it was foggy. This season being Jr's last season as a junior hunter he had the option of hunting alone and still be exempt from the three point rule on bucks. We decided he was going to pick his spot, shoot his deer, field dress it, and get it back to the barn himself....so he did. While he was shooting his buck I was way up on the ridge surrounded by does and one very horny protected young buck. I couldn't take him so ... I shot him with my camera ...LOL... he don't know how lucky he is. After a brief dry out and a cup o coffee, I set my boys up and I did a drive through the swamp. I couldn't chase a buck past my boys, but did manage to run a big Pennsyltuky yote into Dad's cross hairs. That's one who won't be eatin any of my fawns or turk polts...lol
