Thursday the [glow=red,2,300]14th[/glow]
All worked up, TODAY Pipepusher sits on stand.
The drive up the mountain, was slower than usual, and
great measures were taken to silently sneak into the site.
A 4 hour sit was was the plan.
Here is the view from the stand.
An all black bear comes in 15 min. before dark. What fun! You NEVER hear them. they are forest ghosts.
But when you see this silent fluid dark movement, oh ya.
I thought he was a little small, but very healthy, with a really good coat ( no spring rubbing yet ) . He came in from behind me.
Circled my right, came back, to just behind me, now I can't see him.
The next time I do he is right under me, 13feet ! AND NOW I change my mind. I think he went about 175 lbs. they gain 33% by winter, that would put him around 230+ this fall. About average. He probably would stand about 5 feet tall. I have devised a bait set up to eliminate 1st and 2nd season cubs and hopefully them mom, and 3 year olds. It is a shooter bear site. He was probably between 5 and 7 years old. But I don't know shit about bears.
I could not wait , I slowly--- silently pointed my 300 mag, down, more down,more........there I'm on him, BUT, the stock is not on my shoulder, I don't shoot, he does a slow bolt back down the draw.
Tomorrow I will try again, 4 hours on stand. I am going for broke this time. I will put out a pint of honey , and a couple pounds of burger smeared onto tree bark, for EXtra pull, and a good cover scent.
I let ya know. If not I will be setting up in a further away area,
that is open longer.
