Hares,Hares,Hares everywhere's and not a hunter to be seen . Strange as it is we have all kinds of snowshoe hares and I have never in all my life here seen anyone do any beagling or rabbit hunting here . Oh sure we have the odd grouse hunter shoot one or two a season but our rabbits have never been chased ,and I mean never , I wonder would this be a surprise to them!! ;D

It finally warmed up and packed down the snow this week...just in time for the last day of small game. My bud Rick and his dog Franklin stopped over and we went huntin. Rick has two other rabbit dogs but they are the shorter kind a beagles an the snow was still 20 inches in the shady places. It hit 49 degrees an we started out huntin my place....we fould lots of sign from yesterday, but no rabbits. We decided to go to one of our favorite honey holes...swampy and heavy cover. On the way we stopped and grabed some lunch...me an Jr shared some sandwich with Franklin and had a little talk with him. Franklin is the best rabbit dog in Susquehanna County. It is amazing to see him work, he has a lot of heart for hunting. We have been out hunting in groups of 5 and he will work that rabbit back to Rick 8 out of 10 times{see little talk and sandwich}. The minute we got out of the truck he took off on one...Wahooo... In ten minutes he ran one past Jr. Blam...Jr's first rabbit is in the game bag. Ten minutes later he runs one by me...one in my bag. Ten minutes later he runs one by Rick Blam...that one got away for next year. We move ahead and Frankin runs one by Jr. Blam one more for Jr. Next one goes by Rick an he misses but the rabbit does not get by me. We move foward and 2 Grouse burst outta the bush{season closed... bummer ...I'm sure I coulda doubled LOL} Jr. bags a nice fat squirrl and Rick flushes a Phesant but couldn't get a shot. We worked across the road and Blam Blam... Rick let one go for next year. What a bitter sweet day...Great hunting day was sweet ...oiling and racking the guns till next season...bitter.

What a great day we had today. Feb. 3 and it hit 50 degrees today. Last nights hard rain and warm temps washed away all the snow. Round 1 o'clock the phone rang and my bud Rick says...hey, wanna go rabbit huntin? Well I was supposed to clean the basement and as I stood there with the phone to my ear...lookin at the basement...I thought hmmm clean basement or hunt. Well that's a no brainer. Since I am the principal of the Snow Hollow School {we home school our kids} I declared a Sun Day {opposite of snow day}{you should have seen him drop those books and hustle...wish I could see that kind of enthusiasm for yard work or firewood} an me an jr. grabbed our shootin iron's and headed out fast. Our first spot turned out dry...but the second was non stop action. The dog never stopped baying and the shots ecoed off the mountains for 2 hours. Jr. got 4 Rick 2 and the old man only had one shot and missed...LOL.
